Quercetin is a Rich Flavonoid Pycnogenol

Quercetin is an important member of a class of naturally occurring plant pigments known as flavonoids. You can distinguish these plants by their red color. Some of the foods which contain quercetin are red wines, onions, and apples. Onions and apples are particularly rich sources of the flavinoid quercetin. You can also find quercetin in black and green teas. It is also interesting that quercetin serves as a basic building block for many other members of the flavonoids family.

Quercetin works with other antioxidants to help fight the damaging affects of free-radical molecules. Free-radicals are the main cause of aging and degenerative disease in modern Western societies.

Vitabase Quercetin Can Reduce the Risk of Heart Attack and Atherosclerosis

There have been several studies of populations which have linked a high consumption of quercetin and certain other flavonoids to reducing the risk of certain disorders. A study which was published in an issue of Surgery in 2002 stated that the antioxidant activity of quercetin can  reduce the buildup of a key component of atherosclerosis. This helps support the findings of a large-scale Dutch study of 5,000 adults. This study was able to link a high flavonoid intake with a reduced risk of heart attack.

Vitabase Quercetin Can Aid in Prostate Health

A study performed in 2001 by the well-known Mayo Clinic found that the use of quercetin may be a possible breakthrough for the treating of certain prostate disorders. Another report which was published in December 2004, showed that quercetin is also effective in treating chronic prostatitis. The lead researcher, Dr. Daniel Shoskes, said, “These impressive findings should offer hope to the millions of men who suffer from this poorly understood and painful condition, as it provides a new option for doctors who've been frustrated by limited treatment choices.”

While there have been a number of studies done on quercetin, more studies are necessary to establish definite health benefits.

Over 30 years of extensive study have been done on quercetin. During that time it has proven to be a safe and effective natural supplement.
