Black Cohosh Has A History of Health Benefits for Women

There is a history of use of Black cohosh for women’s health dating back to Native American times. Today it can be found being used for issues from menstruation to menopause. Most commonly, it is used for menopausal symptoms caused by an estrogenic effect on the body.

The most common menopausal symptoms are hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, depression, headaches, loss of libido, weight gain, and breast tenderness. Countless studies spanning the past 40 years have helped establish the efficiency of black cohosh in helping to treat menopausal symptoms.

A popular 1982 study of over 600 women, taking 80 mg of black cohosh daily for six to eight weeks, found that 80% of them experienced some relief from menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, perspiration, irritability, heart palpitations, and depression.

Black cohosh has also seemed to be useful in supporting normal menstruation and relieving PMS symptoms. According to U.S. News and World Report, 75% of women suffer each month from premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), more commonly referred to as premenstrual disorder or PMS. Three to nine percent of women report that their symptoms are severe enough to inhibit daily activities.

For Additional Support We Added Dong Quai and Chasteberry

Included in Vitabase’s Black Cohosh Extract Plus are two additional ingredients called dong quai and chasteberry known for how effectively they support women’s health. These elements work together with black cohosh for maximum effectiveness. Herbalist generally recommend dong quai to support a normal menstrual cycle.
